This Friday will see 7 groups of 20 students from the Ballarat Christian College heading out into the community to give a helping hand.
The students are participating in activities all week as part of ‘Mission Week’ which will culminate in this day of community service.
After a request from the School, United Way Ballarat has found the following organisations excited to have the students volunteering:
Wendouree West Community Garden
The Lighthouse Foundation – homeless youth home
Pinarc Disability Services
McCallum Disability Services – Community Connections
Child and Family Services
Ballarat Regional Multicultural Centre
Sovereign Hill Museums.
Students will be introduced to their respective organisation and what it does in the community before undertaking varying tasks. They will undertake garden and landscape work, cleaning and tidying up of facilities, and interacting with and reading to clients.
Christina Fay of Child and Family Services is looking forward to the day, ‘We are excited to be able to work with the students. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage young people, giving them a broader understanding of issues faced by members of our community.’
