Relay 4 Life – 5-6 Mar 2011

The team set up in the room at Bray Raceway that was used by the Relay 4 Life organizing committee to host the Cancer Survivors and Carers.  Interviews with team participants and committee members along with broadcast of the official opening and closing ceremonies kept the team busy as well as collecting requests to aid the relay teams through until 1am which was the “noise cut off time” negotiated with the venue.

4 Hours of Power – 24 Feb 2011

Celebrating Tinderbox 1st birthday saw Amy & Lauren combine with Phil & Face “Off The Tracks” and Rex Hardware and students from – Arts Academy University of Ballarat (Advanced Diploma of Live Production) for a brilliant “4 Hours of Power”.  Local performers enjoyed the warm evening on the Voice FM balcony with the Production students ensuring that all went to air with out a hitch.  Hopefully this will be the start of many more opportunities for the Voice FM team to work with the UB crew and more great performances.  See photos and links to the recorded performances on our Voice FM Facebook page.

SpringFest Market Sunday – 31st October 2010

Whilst the weather wasn’t kind for the amazing work done by the SpringFest organizing committee, many stalls still set up and our Voice FM team used the new Gazebo to keep the rain off rather than the hoped for sunshine.  We were still able to conduct our survey and present participants in the survey with one of our new fridge magnets and a Voice FM sticker.  Perhaps the highlight was the endeavour to describe the display over the Lake by the  RAAF Roulettes who managed to make it up to Ballarat around the storms.   Voice FM looks forward to working with the Rotary Club of Ballarat for the next SpringFest Market Sunday – Oct 30 2011

Mobility Safety & Transport Expo – 19 October 2010

Tuesday 19th and we were back at the Mining Exchange to support this informative Expo.

Seniors Week Launch – 4 Oct 2010

Monday 4th Oct saw us set up in the Ballarat Library for the launch of Seniors Week.  Interviews included promotion of major activities taking place during this special week.

Caledonian Primary School -  26th September 2010

Arts, Craft and Produce Market on Sunday 26th Sept 2010.  This was the inaugural Market and Voice FM were pleased to support the Caledonian Primary School in their bold endeavour.  Their committee worked hard to have a variety of stalls as well as excellent displays by students.  We had fun recording some voices for Voice FM promos as well as demonstrating our on-air system and answering many interesting questions.

National Volunteer Expo – 14th May 2010

National Volunteer Week Expo was held in the Bridge Mall on Friday 14th May 2010 to celebrate the marvellous work of all volunteers in the Ballarat region.  It also provided an opportunity for organizations to promote themselves to the general public and make them aware of what volunteers do, and to consider volunteering themselves.  The Expo was once again organized by United Way Ballarat.  The Voice FM team had a great time interviewing as many of the groups as possible and look forward to participating again next year.

Wendouree CFA – Good Friday Appeal

Voice FM were thrilled to help the Wendouree CFA as they again coordinated the Ballarat and district collections for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.  Last year we assisted for the first time by taking the caravan up, setting up an OB and doing live crosses through the day as well as broadcasting the final result.

This year, we prepared a Community Service Announcement that received high rotation in the lead up to, and especially on, Good Friday.  The CSA gave the Ballarat phone number for donations as well as locations that donations could be handed in.  Once again we set up an OB at the Wendouree CFA, minus the caravan this year.  We were able to do live crosses with stories from local major fundraising events, volunteers coming in from door knocking, CFA volunteers returning from their stints at the major road intersections, the ladies catering for all the volunteers rostered on to help as well as the important updates of the Ballarat tally.  It wouldn’t be a RCHGFA without Sonia conducting an Easter Raffle.

Some of the CFA volunteers have been involved in this annual event for 33 years.  Just an outstanding contribution not only within their work with the CFA but especially for this special day.  Most had their own family stories to tell of involvement with the Royal Children’s Hospital, but also they were involved because it is just such an important institution and you never know when, or if, someone within your own family circle will need their skilled staff and essential services.

Armaguard personnel set up their “counting machine” for currency and computer program for cheques and phoned donations.  They keep an accurate and running tally through the day.  It is a noisy affair as all the tins that have been located at stores, pubs and businesses throughout theyear are opened and run through the machine.  Strict conditions maintain the line of security as volunteers come and go through the day and there is a real sense of achievement as the bagged and sealed collections are loaded into the Armaguard truck on completion.

The Voice FM team were invited to be part of the BBQ at the Wendouree CFA Station when the all important announcements are made as to which local CFA has won the Annual Shield for the highest collection, the overall Ballarat Tally and last, but by no means least, the winners of the Raffle.

This year there was a lot of banter as Sebastopol was named the winning team.  They went from $12,454 odd dollars last year to $18,909.20 this year.  An outstanding achievement.  The tally from the local CFA teams was $50,177, the final tally was $91,820.65 and the Raffle added another $85 to the total.  The final tally includes, amongst others, donations to the various Safeway stores in Ballarat.

Not only were Sebastopol the winning team but the winning ticket for the raffle went to one of the Sebas volunteers.  Second prize went to one of the team of doorknockers.  Both winners were present at the draw which was another bonus.

In thanking all involved in the day Ray Trounson (Wendouree CFA Volunteer and RCHGFA Ballarat Coordinator) announced that for the first time they had received phone calls to the Ballarat number and cars had dropped in donations to the station.  This could only be attributed to the CSA’s run by Voice FM.  He looked forward to building on the partnership with Voice FM as they celebrated this year’s achievements and started planning activities for a bigger and better collection next year.

Caledonian Primary School Market – Sunday 28th March 2010

The Caledonian Primary School held it’s inaugural Arts, Craft and Produce Market on Sunday 28th March 2010.  Voice FM assisted with pre and post interviews, Community Service Announcements, and an OB on the day.

Ballarat Rotary Raffle Draw – 28th February 2010

We were thrilled to assist Ballarat Rotary by broadcasting the results, from their very succesful raffle, on Sunday 28th February 2010.  They sold over 140,000 tickets.  The Mayor, Cr Judy Verlin, had the task of drawing the tickets from a very larg barrell (water tank!).  She might not get the task again next year as the major winners were all from outside of Ballarat.  But, then again, this is a fantastic way of showing the number of people that visit Ballarat on a regular basis, and especially supporting the work done by our brilliant Rotarians.

Ballarat Pet Expo – Janurary 2010

Information about this Outside Broadcast coming soon.

3rd Annual “Taste” Wine & Food Expo – September 2009

Following the renowned Ballarat Wine Show, “Taste” provided the opportunity for traditional displays and many new exhibitors as well as the introduction of a demonstration stage area for exhibitors to offer some wonderful product & cooking demonstrations.  Held in the Cattle Pavilion at the Ballarat Showgrounds and organised by the volunteer team coordinated by Belinda Glass, the Voice FM team had the Caravan inside the shed and conducted half hourly interviews from 10am to 4pm.  Interviews naturally started with Belinda to promote the event, outline some of the history and paint the picture of how the Cattle Pavilion had been transformed by their hard working committee.  The move from the Mining Exchange provided ample parking, good cross promotion with the usual Sunday morning Rotary “Trash & Treaure”.  Many of the exhibitors interviewed spoke of how they got involved in their business, hurdles overcome and things to consider if contemplating beginning your own business.   The event was extremely successful with many family groups taking up the cost effective promotion of local produce sampling, tasting and sales from treats, delicacies and gourmet delights.
