Approximately 20 designs will be selected by the project organiser and Backspace Gallery curator to be developed for The ReFashion Show by the submitting artist(s). Artists will be notified of the curators’ decision by Monday 15 December. Because the works will be paraded in association with the Ballarat Backyard Tasters, it is imperative that durability and wearability be a consideration in developing those designs. Artists chosen to fabricate work from their designs will be awarded $100.00 toward material costs. Daylesford Macedon Ranges Open Studios

The Open Studios program is designed to showcase the extraordinary artists working in the beautiful Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region in central Victoria. Each of the 30 participating artists will open their studio doors for six days, giving the public an opportunity to go ‘behind the scenes’ of the creative process, meet the artists in their creative spaces and learn about their work and inspiration. Friday 7 to Sunday 9 November Following on from the highly successful ‘Eco-Cubby Project’ undertaken by Regional Arts Victoria in 2013, this year’s event aims to offer opportunities for play while talking with children and young people about the importance of sustainability at home. Meet the passionate Creative Cubby Project team; Project Co-ordinator, Pauline O’Shannessy-Dowling, (POD Design) a local Visual Artist, who creates intricate, bold and whimsical drawings and regularly runs art-workshops with school children, encouraging creativity and artistic expression of imaginative thinking. Landscape Architect, Liz Cummins of 'Bricolage Design' specialises in play spaces and children’s landscapes, and she also has a background in early-childhood education. Talina Edwards is director of Ballarat-based sustainable design studio ‘Talina Edwards Architecture: elemental design’, and also a mum to two creative young lads. The team will be working with local children and their families to create an enormous eco-cubby house incorporating sustainable elements artistically such as passivesolar design principles, solar energy, water tanks, vegie gardens and chooks Children can construct with cardboard boxes, colour and cut and create using paper and other recycled materials (collected or supplied by local traders and the Reverse Garbage Truck). Attracting close to 400 participants over the 3 days in 2013, it is anticipated this years project will be even bigger and better! From Bush to Battle - evening talk

Tuesday 11 November Neil Leckie from the Ballarat Ranger Military Museum will speak about the 8th Battalion which was raised at Ballarat on 14 August 1914. Enlistment dates for men who served in this Battalion commence on that date and run through until just before their embarkation overseas, which commenced on 19 October 1914. And more on Ballarat’s smaller WW1 units: 18th Australian Army Service Corps (18 AASC) and Ballarat’s Medical and Light Horse connections. Tim Fitzgerald from Bendigo - Volunteer Research Officer will speak about the story of Ballarat’s own 39th Battalion which was raised on 21 February 1916, at the Ballarat Showgrounds. Enlistment dates for the men who served in this Battalion commence on that date and they run through until just before their embarkation overseas, which commenced on 27 May 1916. Yvon Davis – Project Manager, Mining Mud & Medals will talk the 4 year project Mining Mud & Medals, highlighting the role of men who served in various Australian Tunnelling Corps during WW1, particularly those who came from the Ballarat Electorate, or those from elsewhere who came to study at the Schools of Mines in the electorate. The Mining Mud & Medals Project is partially funded by the ANZAC Centenary Grant.
