"James Joyce is right to contend that the experience of Dante is as intense as looking into the sun-it's necessary to avert one's gaze at the right moment. When I've looked away I've been led to images and texts that connect to The Divine Comedy."
Barry Gillard is a Geelong-based artist whose works are held in Geelong Gallery, Horsham Regional Art Gallery, and private collections in Australia.

David McVicar’s second new production of the season is this dynamic staging of Giulio Cesare, a hit at the Glyndebourne Festival in 2005, which incorporates elements of Baroque theater and 19th-century British imperialism to illuminate the opera’s themes of love, war, and empire building. “Giulio Cesare is a kaleidoscope of an opera—a semi-comic, semi-tragic adventure story. You get romance, you get drama, you get moments of political wheeling-and-dealing, complex family relationships—as well as real emotion and tragedy,” McVicar says. “It’s a miracle, and it has enabled me to express everything I feel is important about opera.” David Daniels stars as the title character, opposite Natalie Dessay in her Met role debut as the bewitching Cleopatra, Alice Coote as Sesto, Patricia Bardon as Cornelia, Christophe Dumaux as Tolomeo, and Guido Loconsolo in his Met debut as Achilla.

Centacare Ballarat is a local not-for-profit organisation that has been delivering vital support services to the Ballarat and district communities for over 35 years. The visits are in partnership with Child & Family Services, Relationships Australia, Central Highlands Community Legal Centre and BGT.
The 11th National Families Week will commence on 15 May (coinciding with United Nations International Day of Families) and continue until 21 May 2013. Over 115,000 people are expected to take part in registered local events around the country.
This year’s theme, ‘Families working together: Getting the balance right’, encourages everyone to think about the way families can work together to achieve a happy and healthy lifestyle.
National Families Week is a time to celebrate with immediate family, make contact with extended family and friends and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. It is a time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family time.
Community Engagement Co-Ordinator, Kathryn Lanyon, said the schools visits were aimed at celebrating the importance of balanced families & sharing information with parents about local services to support families.
“Let’s all take the time to work together to get the best balance in all life’s activities. When families work together, everyone benefits.”
