Corangamite Shire – Media Release – 3rd August 2012
Community meetings held in Cobden, Terang and Camperdown have allowed residents and health service staff to express their views on the health services in the region.
The review was a Coalition Government election commitment, announced by Terry Mulder.
The project attracted $80,000 funding through the Department of Health and is being conducted by Biruu Health.
Spokesperson for the project Advisory Committee, Corangamite Shire Mayor, Matt Makin said the review is progressing well and formal consultations have now been completed.
“The consultation sessions were well attended and provided valuable feedback regarding what people valued with regard to the provision of health services” Cr Makin said.
Consultations have also occurred directly with a number of allied health organisations and professionals including local doctors, Ambulance Victoria and aged care providers.
“The advisory committee has looked at service data as well as feedback from the consultations.
“The next step will be to identify the best option for services across the whole shire,” Cr Makin said.
“There is a great spirit of cooperation amongst the providers to work toward ensuring the community of Corangamite has access to quality health services into the future,” he said.
Cr Makin reiterated that the process was not about closing any particular health service but about creating a roadmap for service delivery that is sustainable.
The review is expected to be completed by the end of September.
