Face Book – Progressiverockshow Voicefm
Progressive Rock is a loose term I intend to use as a cover for music which was usually a combination of elements drawn from rock and roll, blues and jazz, classical and rhythm and blues as well as a diverse rage of styles. I don’t intend to adhere strictly to music found in the prog rock canon, but rather music I believe to be moving rock forward into new realms.
Mike Oldfield widely known for his work Tubular Bells was quoted recently in Prog Rock magazine defining prog’ rock as follows; “People were trying to see what could be done, that’s why it was called progressive – progress I suppose”
Much of prog rock was created around the burgeoning technology that was also developing at the time. Stereo had been developed and bands like the Beatles experimented with using two different channels of sound at the same time as well as the improvements in mixing technology, new instruments and equipment such as synthesizers and guitar pedals and playing around with tapes and multi channel mixing.
In weeks to come we will be looking at the Beatles as the start of prog rock and then moving into shows that look at the history and music of various bands and featuring a whole album per week chosen from each band/artists oevre and discussing its merits and the story behind it.
Bands to come include Yes, ELO, Genesis, ELP, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Punk Rock, Buggles, 80′s Electronica etc.
Rael – Biography
Rael was born in New York City and was the leader of a gang of hoodlums for sometime, but after a near death experience and a rebirth (after embracing his ego and id and moving on), he became a roadie for a famous rock band and moved around for many years on the road gathering his encyclopeadic knowledge first hand, appearing onstage in many countries as guitar roadie to many greats as well as assistant to most famous musos. He has been publicly thanked by greats from Bowie to Gabriel and other bands.
These days he lives as a virtual recluse in the bushland of Ballarat Victoria writing his memoirs and continuing to add to his huge music collection and collecting “interesting” books and pictures – as an accomplished artist he also is creating works in the figurative tradition and always seeking inspiration.
He has many ambitions including seeing Europe and the great art works and the Greek Islands as well as producing a show that will be heard worldwide……
