Slater & Gordon Ballarat office bangs on a beanie
Media Release – Friday 10th August 2012
National law firm Slater & Gordon is again supporting the ‘BANGONABEANIE’ campaign, run during Brain Injury Awareness Week, with lawyers and staff in offices across the country wearing and selling the iconic blue beanie to support people with an acquired brain injury.
Profits from the BANGONABEANIE campaign will go toward improving essential services for people living with an acquired brain injury, including support during the post-injury period, which is often the most crucial stage of recovery.
Fleur Jackson, from Slater & Gordon’s Ballarat office, said she will be donning the iconic blue beanie to help increase the awareness of acquired brain injuries.
“We see people all of the time who have a serious brain injury as a result of a car or workplace accident,” Ms Jackson said.
“These life-changing injuries can really have an impact on someone’s family and friends.
“And with the right support, services, and funding, we can ensure that people with brain injuries can lead active lives,” she said.
Many Australians are diagnosed with an acquired brain injury every year – yet there is very little understanding or knowledge in the community about the impact it has on people and their family.
According to the World Health Organisation there is approximately 1.6 million Australians, around 1 in 12, suffering from a brain injury caused by a motor vehicle accident, a fall, a blow to the head or some other incident.
Acquired Brain Injury is very common, particularly Traumatic Brain Injury, an injury caused by an external force to the brain such as a motor vehicle accident, sporting accident, and falls or a blow to the head.
Brain Injury Awareness Week runs from August 13 through to August 19.
