Fabulously naughty, exotic and noisy Spyndrift is more than just a band it’s a visual feast being served hot to the Goldfields this April and May.
Formed in the stunning Otway Ranges in 2004 this award winning five piece band concocts a dynamic blend of ska-cabaret, circus-reggae, roots and psychedelia. ‘Think a smoky Parisian den meets dub-skank and runs away with the circus,’ suggests their website.
Since the recording of their second EP, ‘Positive Charge’, in 2011, Spyndrift have played a string of gigs, including sell-out performances at Melbourne’s Butterfly Club, packed houses at The Anglesea Music Festival, The Queen Victoria Geelong Night Market and last year’s Apollo Bay Music Festival.
Spyndrift’s first film clip ‘Like a Kyte’, is in the final stages of production. Filmed with Melbourne duo Dan Mitton and Sky Davies, the clip promises to be not only a great video clip but an excellent piece of film work in its own right.
Front woman, Elle Wood says, ‘if the shorter, colder days are dragging you down, dance the night away with Spyndrift’s infectious dance grooves, Spyndrift is like a ripe peach, once bitten we evoke rapture and delight.’ ‘This tour is all about the people and bringing a smile to their faces, listening to music is one thing but the visual performance is essential to the story.’
The coming tour is causing quite a buzz in the Goldfields region already. With Bendigo’s Phoenix FM presenter, Mick Griffin, attesting to their virtues. ‘Don`t miss this musical visual extravaganza whatever you do! One of the most genuinely exciting and entertaining live acts I`ve seen in many a year’, Mr Griffins said.
Spyndrift were the winners of the 2010 Vic Hunt Memorial Music Award at the Blues Club Geelong, the award going towards recording their second EP ‘Positive Charge’ released October 2011. Spyndrift kicked off their ‘follow the yellow brick road’ tour with vibrant show in Ocean Grove.
They’ll be in Bendigo at The New Market Hotel, on Saturday the 28th of April, Hepburn Springs at The Old Hepburn Hotel on Sunday the 29th of April at 3pm and a final show in Ballarat at Portico on Saturday the 5th of May.
Tickets for all shows will be available at the door.
