Annabelle Brayley is the author of four collections of stories about Nursing. These include Bush Nurses, Nurses of the Outback, Outback Vets and , now, Vietnam Nurses. The author states that she has written Vietnam Nurses because, while much has been written about Australian soldiers who fought in Vietnam, there has been no book written about the nurses who cared for the soldiers. In fact, more than 200 civilian nurses from major hospitals all over Australia joined surgical teams in South Vietnam under the auspices of the South East Asia Treaty Organisation. One hundresd and six nursing officers from the Royal Australian Nursing Service were deployed to the Butterworth Air Force Base in Malaysia. Thirty two of these were attached to the United States Air Force flying missions into Vietnam day after day to evacuate wounded soldiers.
The stories of these brave nurses who have received little recognition in their own country are both astounding and inspiring.
